On Friday, August 5, we will be visiting the Gerhart/Formosa Plastics prairie remnant to collect seeds for the first time. This high quality remnant, approximately 16 acre in size, is located halfway between Houston and Angleton along the west side of Highway 288 feeder road between CR 62 and CR 63.
Some species that might be collected are Mexican Hat (Ratibida columnifera), Eryngo hookieri, Black-eyed Susan (Rudbeckia hirta) and along side the road, Mimosa strigillosa. Thanks to Carter Clay for this information.
The land is private property and we have permission to collect that day though Mark Morgenstern's contact with Formosa Plastics. Mark will be leading us on the prairie. For permission to be on property in the future, contact Mark Morgenstern of Morning Star Prairie Plants at 713-446-2509.
