Putting Down Roots
Putting Down Roots
Save the Date - November 8, 2025
Thanks to our 2024 volunteers, we planted 1,605 prairie plants and created a new acre of restored prairie habitat! We hope to break this record at our 2025 fall planting festival, held each year on the second Saturday in November.
We plant from 9am-12pm, and interactive activity stations and refreshments are available until 1pm. Volunteers of all ages are welcome, and we offer planting supplies, hot dogs/veggie dogs, and educational activities at the event. Live bluegrass music by “Fire Ants String Band” will be provided to help cheer our planting teams on as they go! We hope to see you there! Email Bethany with any questions or if you’d like to host a booth or activity!
This annual prairie planting event is held on the Coastal Prairie Conservancy’s Indiangrass Preserve. The event is open to the public and brings together hundreds of supporters and community members.
The goal of this event is to enhance and maintain the restoration of the Indiangrass Preserve by planting native seedlings that have been grown in our Native Plant Nursery and by Great Grow Out volunteers. This event has a strong education component as we strive to teach volunteers the value of land conservation by involving them in our on the ground restoration efforts.
This event is an excellent opportunity for our community to invest in the deep roots that the prairie has in local culture, recreation, and the economic development of our region.
